Butchs Rat Hole & Anchor Service

Butch's Rat Hole & Anchor Service is an oil and gas service contractor founded in 1980 in Levelland, Texas by L.D. (Butch) Bryant. It began with a single rat hole truck servicing three drilling companies, added anchor setting and testing in 1982, and now reports more than 950 employees across six states. The company describes itself as one of the largest privately owned oil and gas servicing companies in the United States.

Anchors and rat hole work

Anchor setting and testing units run out of the Levelland, Seminole and Midland, Texas locations. A 4-Wing grip jaw anchor with a corrosion inhibiting coating is supplied at every location where an anchor is requested. The anchors are made of American steel and are manufactured and assembled in the United States, and the company states they are guaranteed by the National Foundry to exceed OSHA standards.

Casing

The casing division was formed in 2014 and is staffed by casing managers the company credits with over 200 years of combined knowledge and experience. Services include professional casing crews, torque turn, internal and external CRT, tubing and laydown. Casing work covers the Permian, Delaware, Haynesville and Eagle Ford basins.

Civil construction

The construction division supports customer site work and includes in-house personnel who help design construction plans against a project budget. Multi-aggregate and full material hauling is offered, along with a drone package used to create property heat maps and detailed project layouts. Project types include:

Drilling motors

The drilling motor division started in 2018 and is built around mud motors intended to maximize footage and increase rate of penetration. Servicing of the motor fleet is handled in house.

Locations and safety

The original yard at 101 Alamo Road in Levelland remains fully operational, and additional yards were added over time in Seminole, Midland and Odessa, Texas, and Artesia, New Mexico.
