Eutsler Technical Products, Inc.

Houston, TX Drilling Fluids & Mud Services

Family owned custom rubber manufacturer in Houston, Texas, molding, extruding and mandrel wrapping elastomeric parts for oil and gas, energy and mining OEMs since 1964.

Eutsler Technical Products manufactures custom rubber and elastomeric parts at a plant on Creekmont Drive in Houston, Texas. Ernest Eutsler and Bernes Borski founded the business in 1964, and it has stayed family owned, with the Borski sons Michael, Jeffrey and Kenneth joining Ann Eutsler in overseeing the operation. Parts are built to designs owned by the customer rather than supplied from a catalogue, with Eutsler acting as the OEM molder for those products.

Production has grown from a small shop in 1964 to a 45,000 square foot facility on a seven acre site. The company holds an ISO 9001:2015 accredited certificate issued by WCS. On-site compounding and testing let staff evaluate an application and recommend a specific material and production method.

Manufacturing processes

  • Custom molding
  • Extrusion
  • Mandrel wrapping
  • Die cutting
  • Rubber to metal bonding for standard and custom applications
  • On-site elastomer compounding

Mandrel wrapping applies uncured rubber to a pipe mandrel or directly onto the finished part, then vulcanizes it so the part can be machined to shape. The company positions the process for low volume parts where cutting a mold would be uneconomical, and describes it as a way to reduce tooling costs and shorten the time needed to make a product.

Parts produced

  • Bladders
  • Centralizers
  • Gaskets
  • Grommets
  • O-rings
  • Seals
  • Sleeves
  • Tubes
  • Washers

Molded, extruded and mandrel wrapped versions are all offered. The company states that it specializes in irregular or unusual shaped parts that are not found on a shelf, and that it has supplied thousands of custom rubber products to industrial OEMs worldwide, some of them sold under private labels.

Materials and compounds

More than 300 stock or custom elastomeric compounds are available, and technicians blend a compound to match the specification supplied with the part. Compounding experience covers fluoroelastomers, nitriles, chloroprenes, EPDM, natural rubber and specialty elastomers.

MaterialResistance profile
Fluorocarbon (FKM)Petroleum fuels and oils, oxygen, some acids, prolonged high heat
Nitrile (NBR)Petroleum, mineral and vegetable oils, aromatic hydrocarbons, many acids
EPDMHeat, ozone, weather, electrical insulation
Natural rubberAcids, organic salts and alkalis, high wear
SBRAbrasion, humidity, aging stability

Nitrile parts are listed as performing from minus 40 to 108 degrees Celsius, which suits hoses, seals and grommets exposed to fuels and oils. Eutsler notes that EPDM, natural rubber and SBR have little resistance to petroleum products, so those materials are directed at outdoor, high abrasion or high humidity work instead.

Engineering and quality

Molds are designed in house for each part so that design elements and tolerances are met, and the mold machining is outsourced to partner shops. Finished parts meet Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) tolerances, and both short and long production runs are handled. Research and development is a continuing service, covering new products with clients and updated methods for existing ones.
