JATCO, Inc. manufactures environmental tanks, BTEX emission control systems and diaphragm pumps for the oil and gas production and transportation industries. The company was founded in 1988 and is family owned and operated. Its products and training services are marketed and installed globally.

The business began when an oil field pumper asked the founders to develop a method of preventing hazardous liquid waste from contaminating his work sites. That request produced the JATCO Environmental Tank, which the company describes as the industry's top-selling automatic blow-case. The line has since expanded into pollution control systems and custom configurations built to customer specification.

How the environmental tanks work

A tank sits below waste producing equipment so liquids gravity flow into the vessel instead of spilling onto soil or into groundwater. When the tank fills, a float operates a three way valve that lets gas pressure force the liquid out through a discharge line to stock tanks for recycling or disposal. Once the tank is empty, the float closes the valve, the gas pressure vents and the vessel refills by gravity.

The design carries very few moving parts and can use normally available gas pressure as the motive force for pumping the waste fluid. Electric options are also offered.

Applications

The tanks are used to capture:

• Waste fluid from glycol dehydrators
• Lubricating oil and used engine oil from gas compressors
• Packing leaks from centrifugal and reciprocating pumps
• Packing leaks from oil well pump jacks
• Overflow and vent lines
• Waste liquid from flare lines
• Storm water runoff from equipment skids
• Distillate pumps

Tank sizes and configurations

Two standard receiver sizes are listed: the J-5000 at 10 gallons, rated to handle 310 gph, and the J-7000 at 30 gallons. Tanks can also be configured to other standards or applications a customer requires.

An SM-P variant of the J-5000 is also documented, in plain, 100 ABV and 200 ABV versions.

BTEX emission control systems

BTEX systems capture benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene, the volatile organic compounds released at various stages of oil and gas production, rather than allowing them to vent to atmosphere. Three system types are built:

• A-Frame, air cooled
• Vertical Panel, air cooled
• Shell and Tube

Parts, manuals and support

Parts are carried for the J-5000, the J-7000 and the BTEX systems. The company site publishes a part search tool, downloadable equipment manuals, a BTEX system sizing guide and troubleshooting videos. Staff are described as fabricators, industry experts and support personnel.
