Lubchem Specialties

Lubchem Specialties, LLC blends, manufactures and distributes lubricants from its headquarters and plant at Conroe, Texas. The company distributes CITGO, Mystik and Clarion branded lubricants, blends its own trademarked Longlife line on site, and runs custom toll blending against customer formulas. It serves upstream and downstream energy markets alongside general industrial accounts, and states that it supplies customers across six continents.

Wireline grease seals and sprays

Grease seals for oil and gas well logging and other wireline work are the most detailed part of the catalog. They are applied through grease injector control heads and cable lubricators, and are recommended for braided wireline, cable and wire rope.

• WL-700 Series: hydrocarbon based standard seal, inhibited for 20% CO2 and H2S at 10,000 psi and greater, in seasonal grades from Arctic (ISO 60) to Summer (ISO 6000)
• WL-724HT and WL-728HT: high temperature grades carrying a rust inhibitor, downhole corrosion inhibitor, H2S scavenger and pH buffers, in 16, 20, 24, 26 and 28 viscosity grades
• BWL-800 Series: biodegradable synthetic seal rated to 475F and 20,000 psi, described as non-hazardous by EPA and DOT
• Wire Armor 900 Series: biodegradable seal covered by patent number 11,214,727, which the company states meets OSPAR and Blue Angel biodegradability standards
• Wire Armor Spray: biodegradable spray in WASP 36 and WASP 007 grades, applied when spooling for protection between trips and in storage

BWL-800 is stated to protect against H2S up to 500,000 ppm and CO2 in water to 50 percent. Wire Armor 900 is rated for 100 percent CO2 and H2S at pressures to 10,000 psi and greater, cleans up with hot or cold water, and is listed as non-flammable and non-toxic.

Longlife lubricants

Longlife is the in-house brand, blended at the Conroe plant. Published datasheets, issued in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic, cover:

• Natural gas engine oils in ashless and low ash formulations
• Heavy duty engine oils to CK-4, plus motor oils
• EP and GL-1 gear oils, and the ShockSorb gear oil line
• AW, AW+, dielectric AW and universal hydraulic oils, and J20C and J20D tractor fluids
• ATF, manual transmission and TO-4 drivetrain fluids, turbine oil, R&O oil and bar and chain lubricant

The catalog also lists FracPack frac pump packing lubricants in Grease, HD and XD grades, plus the IS-1500-HF and Lubesolve cleaning compounds. LiquiDynamics fluid handling equipment for the transfer, dispensing and collection of new and used fluids is distributed alongside them.

Toll blending and contract manufacturing

Toll blending covers work from high speed dispersions to high viscosity blending, run either on a formula the customer supplies or on one the company helps improve or develop. Private label manufacturing, packaging of liquid chemicals, and repackaging of bulk material into smaller containers are also offered, and the company states that all employees work under confidentiality agreements.

Background and certification

Lubchem was founded in 1952 as a chemical manufacturing and blending company working in powdered chemicals, water treatment and industrial cleaning compounds. It moved into valve lubricants in 1974 after acquiring a lubricant base stock from a chemical manufacturer on the Houston Ship Channel, and entered international markets during the 1980s. Lubchem Specialties, LLC was established in 2023 as a subsidiary of Lubchem, Inc. to add the CITGO, Mystik and Clarion lines, custom toll blending and the Longlife brand.

The Conroe site houses the manufacturing plant and a research and development center, and the company is ISO 9001:2015 certified. Specialty valve lubricants and sealants for harsh chemical environments and demanding operating conditions are manufactured under Lubchem, Inc.
