Ranger Energy Services
Houston-based well servicing and wireline contractor running high spec rigs, rig assist snubbing, fishing, plug and abandonment and pump down services across six states.
Ranger Energy Services is a Houston-based well servicing and wireline company, publicly traded on the NYSE as RNGR. It describes itself as one of the largest providers of high specification mobile rig well services and cased hole wireline services in the U.S. oil and gas industry, covering the well lifecycle from completion and production through workover and abandonment.
Founded in 2014 as Ranger Energy Holdings, the business grew by acquisition, taking in Patriot Well Solutions, PerfX Wireline Services and certain Basic Energy Services assets. Its earliest predecessor dates to 1975.
Well servicing rigs
The fleet is made up of AESC Class IV, V and VI high spec rigs rated 500 to 750 HP, more than 35 percent built since 2014. Mast ratings run to 300,000 lbs and mast heights to 117 ft, which the company says lets its rigs work over tall BOP stacks and still trip double stands. Work floors reach 30 ft, pipe handlers 40 ft and fluid pumps 2,500 HP.
Rig applications include:
- Completion of newly drilled wells and frac plug drillout
- Production string installation
- Recompletion, workover and maintenance of producing wells
- Plug and abandonment
- Rig assist snubbing
Ranger Elite is its packaged frac plug drillout and completion offering, built on 6C high spec rigs with 600 to 2,500 HP pumps.
Plug and abandonment, snubbing and fishing
Plug and abandonment runs on fit for purpose 400 and 500 series rigs in 104 ft mast double and 65 ft single laydown configurations. Spreads add coiled tubing rated to 20,000 ft, cement pumps at 5,000 or 10,000 psi, casing jacks to 700,000 lbs pull and cranes from 25 to 80 tons.
Rig assist snubbing uses 5K and 10K units rated 60,000 lbs snub and 120,000 lbs lift, for live well workovers without kill fluids and casing snubbing in horizontal wells. Fishing covers open hole, cased hole, milling and washover, and casing exit and whipstock work, running overshots, spears, section mills and casing cutters.
Wireline and pressure pumping
Completion wireline covers pump down stage, conventional, addressable switch selective, tubing conveyed and coiled tubing conveyed perforating, run under the CommandPerf and CommandReach names, using polymer jacketed greaseless cable to 40,000 ft and 10K and 12.5K pressure control equipment.
Production and intervention wireline adds:
- RADii segmented cement bond tool and UltraView ultrasonic radial scanner
- Multi-arm caliper tools (24, 40 and 60 arm)
- Radial cutting torch, chemical cutters and explosive jet cutters
Pump down and pressure pumping run 2,250 to 2,500 HP quintuplex pumps on CAT 3512E Tier IV engines and Gardner-Denver power ends, with acidizing, toe prep and DFIT injection analysis also offered.
