Angus Measurement Services

Angus Measurement Services, LP designs, manufactures and services liquid hydrocarbon measurement systems from its Odessa, Texas operation, with a second facility in Oklahoma City. Work centers on Coriolis based custody transfer and allocation metering for crude oil and natural gas liquids, alongside sampling systems, provers, valves and automation. The company also distributes measurement instrumentation for several manufacturers and runs field service and meter proving operations.

Custody transfer and allocation metering

Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) and pipeline measurement systems are built around Coriolis meters for unattended transfer of liquid hydrocarbons. The company states that its systems reach measurement accuracy of 0.25% or better, with LACT units proven monthly. Automated composite sampling, temperature compensation and integrated ticket service replace manual witnessing and hand-written tickets.

Lease allocation metering is a separate line, covering Coriolis liquid allocation systems for both traditional production and lighter shale plays. The company describes experience in the design, manufacture and implementation of these systems for live liquid hydrocarbon measurement.

Sampling systems and interfaces

The Angus LSS-4100 liquid sample circulation system stores and mixes crude oil in single or multiple containers, built to API Chapter 8 Section 2, ISO 3171, ASTM and IP 6.2. Sample pots and skids are carbon steel with 316 stainless tubing, a K&L o-ring sealed lid with a reverse bevel closure that opens without tools, Corvel internal coating and epoxy exterior paint. An internal spray bar and an inline static mixer, driven by a skid mounted electric pump, circulate the fluid so a representative sample is delivered.

The Angus PE-100 interface connects Coriolis transmitters to small and large volume provers where multiple pulse outputs are required, feeding proving, sampler and meter failure timers. Existing sample systems are also rebuilt to current API standards, and individual components can be supplied on their own.

Valves, automation and product lines

Modular automated production test headers use Victaulic fittings and stainless steel 1000 pound three-way ball valves fitted with Bettis actuators, and are designed for SCADA connection and for expansion as wells come online. Other manufactured items include stationary ball provers, the AVR-8 SG volume regulator, PD to Coriolis retrofit kits and the K&L-310 eight inch pressure sample pot dome assembly. K&L divert valves cover high flow LACT service, standard LACT service and the DV1118-B mechanical divert valve.

Angus Operations markets flow meters, valves, pressure switches, chokes and manifolds, acting as a local oil and gas channel for Endress+Hauser and holding product distribution agreements with:

• Electronic Data Devices (EDD), turbine flow meters
• Custom Control Sensors (CCS), pressure, temperature and liquid flow switches
• Franklin Valve, LP, including the DuraSeal double block and bleed plug valve

Facilities and coverage

The Odessa operation was expanded, in what the company described as its 25th year serving customers, from 30,000 square feet to more than 72,000 square feet of manufacturing and fabrication capacity, adding conference and training rooms, offices and an electrical and instrumentation panel shop. A service and measurement component refurbishment center at the same site repairs, rebuilds and services measurement devices.

The Oklahoma City facility covers 15,000 square feet on three acres and supports work across Oklahoma and North Texas. Angus Proving Services runs LACT services and liquid hydrocarbon proving from that location, serving Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle and North Texas. The company also maintains a South Texas division.
